Margarita Monsalve was born in Bogota in 1948; Studied in the School of Graphic Arts in Vienna (1971 - 72.);  Received a degree in Fine arts in Los Andes University of Bogota (1974).

Studied Graphic Techniques in Spain at the workshop of Eberhard Schlotter (1986.) Has exhibited individually twice at Belarca Gallery in Bogota (1985, and 1989) and at the Museum of the National University (1988). International individual appearances include the Panamanian Art Institute (1978) Kaspari Gallery of Dusseldorf (1980) and Guayasamin Museum Quito, Ecuador (1981).

Was invited to many international competitions, among them the Triennale Internationale de Gravure, Brussels (1986) the VI, VII, and VIII San Juan Graphic Biennial, the VIII and the IX Graphic Biennial of Bradford, England (1984 and 1986) and the VI, and the VIII Valparaiso International Biennial (1979 and 1985) where she received, respectively, an Honorable Mention and the Juror’s Award.
